they also had favorite DJs as voted by fans in genres including Hardstyle, Electro, Dubstep, Trance, and Jungle.
The event was a success, while trying to maintain the atmosphere of a typical hollywood award show. Outside guests were met with a red carpet, however, without paparazzi or TMZ, and met with tables reserved for the nominees in front. The stage was a simple podium next to a DJ set up and a couple of moving lights. On either side of the stage, was the iconic stacks of speakers most anyone would associate with a typical Rave sound system.
Some of the more interesting winners included:
Angie Sallen aka "PlurPrincess" from Southbay for best candy outfit in the female category. She graciously accepted the award while wearing the outfit she made famous: A Bra and Underwear with a feather boa and over 200 beaded bracelets adonrning the 18 year old's arms. "I just wanted to thank everyone for this award, because like, I spend a lot of time thinking about what Im gonna wear and like, how that's gonna affect rave scene in a positive way." Said the Southbay G.E.D. program graduate.
The best massive promoter award was given to Insomniac events, one of the biggest and longest running promoters in LA. Pasqual Rotella, the CEO of Insomniac, was not in attendance and so the award was accepted on behalf of the promoter by Steve, a intern, who joked, "Thanks so much for this award, Pasqual wanted to be here tonight, but was unable to attend because he was counting his money. Just kidding, thanks a lot for the, um, cardboard award we got here tonight."
Other winners for the night included Darryn Acila aka "Cosmofreak" for Best Shuffle, Quiana Montes aka "Peachy" for "Most Beads Worn" and DJ Turtleneck for best trance DJ.
Everyone had a great time, and immediately the awards the party started and featured many of the dance nominees showing off their awesome moves on stage alongside the best in EDM DJs.
